Polar Heart Rate Monitor

polarwatch.jpg

A new form of assessment for the physical education department this year is the use of heart rate monitors.

Why?

-         Increases the level of student motivation

-         Students are accountable for their own grade

-         Immediate feedback, at any point students can see what their heart rate is & how many minutes they have in their target heart rate zone

Grading

-         Students will wear the monitors for one rotation each semester

-         100 points of their PE/wellness grade comes from the monitors

-         Students target heart rate zone is 130-180 beats per minute

-         Grade is determined by minutes in & above target heart rate zone:

o       35 or more to get an A

o       34 to get an A-

o       31-33 for a B

o       28-30 for a C

o       25-27 for a D

o       21-24 for an F (50%)

o       20-0 for an F (0%)
